Woodworking Classes in Lexington, KY
Would you, or someone you know, like to learn how to fix or build things for yourself? Are you tired of having to ask or hire someone else to do what appears to be straightforward woodworking or handyman-type tasks? Do you want to become more self-sufficient? Are you afraid to use power tools such as a circular saw, chop saw, or table saw?
Well, you’ve come to the right place!
WOODWORKING CLASSES FOR BEGINNING WOODWORKERS
I offer woodworking classes on a wide variety of woodworking and handyman skills. I love teaching people, and helping them to unlock their creative ideas and talents. I can teach you or your child at your location, online, or in my shop. When I was growing up, there were still shop classes in public schools. I remember taking classes in woodworking and metalworking. These days, shops classes are limited to those going into the trades, and they are not part of the everyday curriculum. That means many people, perhaps including you or your children, were never really exposed to the joys of woodworking.
When we first meet, I will review your background and experience, what skills you want to learn, and what projects you want to build. I have successfully worked with several beginner woodworkers. You can begin with a minimum of tools, but over time you will probably want to build up your woodworking tool collection. I typically recommend that beginning students build a simple kit workbench (~$80 for the kit on Amazon) in order to get started (if they don’t already have a workbench). I prefer to start with projects that you are interested in building, and develop the woodworking skills needed as part of building those projects. This allows you to gain a lot of satisfaction from the woodworking classes from the very beginning, as you are building something that you want!!!
INTERMEDIATE LEVEL WOODWORKING CLASSES FOR DESIGNING AND BUILDING SHOP CABINETS
Perhaps you have some basic familiarity with woodworking tools and would like to enhance your woodworking skill levels and learn how to use more advanced woodworking tools.
I can help you there too!
Over the past several years, I’ve learned how to make shop cabinets. Shop cabinets can be very intimidating, especially when it comes to making drawers. Where do you begin when starting to design or build shop cabinets? I have a three-session class that I’ve developed to teach you how to make shop cabinets. In addition, shop cabinets, or basic shop cabinet designs can be utilized just about anywhere (such as indoor craft areas). My cabinets are primarily in the garage; however, I’ve added drawers in a number of different locations in our house. The skills you learn when designing and building shop cabinets are easily transferred to other woodworking projects.
